Tragic Incident: 5-Year-Old Girl Dies After Being Swept Out to Sea with Grandfather in California

A 5-year-old girl who was caught in a rogue wave and swept into the ocean with her grandfather off the coast of Northern California has died in a hospital, while rescuers have suspended the search for the missing man.

The incident occurred on Martins Beach in Half Moon Bay on Saturday, when a powerful wave suddenly engulfed them, dragging them into the sea around 1 p.m.

Emergency personnel from the San Mateo County Fire swiftly responded to the distress call and managed to rescue the little girl from the treacherous waters. However, despite their efforts to save her, she tragically succumbed to the ordeal and was pronounced deceased at a nearby hospital as confirmed by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Tragically, the search for the missing 54-year-old grandfather had to be suspended after an exhaustive 22-hour operation covering a vast area of 100 square miles.

The decision to halt the search efforts was immensely difficult, but after an extensive search period with no sight of the missing person, the authorities made this heartbreaking choice.
