Detransitioner Sues American Academy of Pediatrics, Exposing Dangers of Gender-Affirming Care for Youths

Lawsuit Alleges Negligence and Ideological Agenda in Treating Children

Isabelle Ayala, a twenty-year-old detransitioner, has filed a lawsuit against the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and several doctors for their role in promoting and conducting 'gender-affirming medicalization' on her as a child.

The lawsuit claims that Ayala was a victim of actors who prioritized politics and ideology over children's safety and well-being.

It alleges that the AAP, along with the doctors involved, engaged in civil conspiracy, fraud, medical malpractice, and other related actions by failing to appropriately treat Ayala for her mental health struggles.

At the age of fourteen, Ayala was convinced by doctors to undergo testosterone and hormone therapy to transition to a boy, despite later experiencing suicidal thoughts and an unsuccessful suicide attempt.

This lawsuit is part of a growing trend of detransitioners taking legal action against medical clinics and organizations for promoting gender transition treatments on them during their childhood.

The procedure in Ayala's case was likely influenced by the AAP's 2018 policy statement that endorsed 'gender-affirming care' for children.

The AAP quietly reaffirmed this policy in August, while acknowledging the need for further review to assess the effectiveness of these treatments.

Despite the call for a systematic review, the current policy remains unchanged as the AAP believes the existing evidence supports its appropriateness.

Jason Rafferty, the lead author of the AAP policy, is among the defendants named in the lawsuit.

Ayala is seeking compensatory and punitive damages, attorney's fees, and other relief as determined by the court.

The lawsuit highlights Ayala's desire to regain her healthy, female body and emphasizes the need for unbiased medical experts who evaluate patients' mental health and provide appropriate care.

Notably, this case specifically targets the AAP for its gender treatment policy, setting it apart from previous lawsuits in this area.

These detransitioning individuals are demanding accountability for the alleged 'gross malpractice' of medical clinics, doctors, and other groups involved in promoting experimental gender treatments on them.

The impact of gender ideology on children and the importance of informed consent are core concerns raised by detransitioners like Ayala.
