Father Allegedly Sets Fire to New Orleans Home, Killing Three Children

In a tragic and senseless incident, three young children lost their lives in a house fire in New Orleans. The fire, allegedly set by their father, followed a heated domestic dispute, according to the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD).

Late on Tuesday night, the children's mother made a distressing call to 911, reporting that her husband had threatened to burn down their home. Just moments later, a fire was reported at their residence.

First responders swiftly arrived at the scene to find the house engulfed in flames. Despite their quick efforts, two of the children, an 8-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl, were rescued but tragically pronounced dead at the hospital.

A third child, a 3-year-old boy, was discovered lifeless inside the burned home. The mother, who was at work during the incident, was not present when the fire broke out.

Joseph Washington Sr., identified as the children's father, has been apprehended and is facing multiple charges, including second-degree murder and aggravated arson. Authorities launched a manhunt, eventually locating Washington Sr. after he attempted to flee by jumping off an overpass.

Police found Washington Sr.'s vehicle abandoned and partially submerged in the Mississippi River, adding to the complexity of the investigation. The cause of the children's deaths has not been disclosed by the coroner yet.

New Orleans interim Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick addressed the tragic incident in a press briefing, expressing deep sadness and outrage. She assured the public that the responsible party will be held accountable.
